Founded by the Georgia Department of Education in 1954, Georgia Peach Credit Union was originally known as the Georgia State Department of Education Credit Union. For the first 25 years of its existence, only GaDOE employees were eligible for membership.
Between 1979 and 1983 four other credit unions merged into GSDE Credit Union, bringing in two hospitals and several school systems in the western part of the state. In 1988 membership was opened to employees of the City of LaGrange, followed by West Georgia Medical Center and Genesis Physicians Group. The last expansion was in 1996, when employees of Troup County were admitted to membership.
In recognition of its more diverse field of membership, the credit union’s name changed to Georgia Peach Credit Union on December 31, 2001. |
